Overview
EquiRent is a free web tool for splitting rent and shared expenses between roommates. The calculators are usable without signup and run entirely in your browser. If you choose to create an account, we store only what you save. This page explains what that means in practice.
Using the calculators without an account
Rent amounts, roommate names, incomes, room sizes, bills, and similar inputs are processed entirely in your browser. We do not transmit them to our servers and we do not store them in any database. When you generate a shareable link, that information is encoded into the URL fragment (the part after #), which browsers do not send to servers.
Accounts and saved households
If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password so you can sign back in. When you save a household, we store the details you saved — its name, the property address if you added one, the total rent, the split method, the roommates you listed with their inputs and shares, and any bills you added. Your saved data is scoped to your account and access is restricted so other users cannot read it.
You can delete individual households at any time from the household page. To request full account deletion, email us or use the contact form and we'll remove your account and its associated data.
Roommate agreement and signatures
The agreement generator and any signatures you draw or type stay on your device. PDF exports are created in your browser. Nothing from the agreement is uploaded to us.
Contact form
If you use our contact form, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent by email to our support inbox via our email provider (Resend). We use that information only to reply to you. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Account emails
When you create an account, we send a one-time welcome email and an optional email verification link through our email provider (Resend). Verifying is not required to use EquiRent — it only lets us send you rent and bill reminders later, if you opt in. We do not send marketing email without asking first.
Cookies and analytics
EquiRent does not set tracking cookies and does not run third-party analytics or advertising scripts. Your browser may store data locally (for example, the current URL of a shared split), but that stays on your device.
Children
EquiRent is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
